Wonderful list. Found myself slightly emotional just reading it! Takes me straight to that glorious Beatrix Potter quote:

‘What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood?’

I have never heard that beautiful quote before Ed. Thank you! The museum to her work in the Lake District is well worth a visit if you're ever nearby.

Patrick by Quentin Blake, Possum Magic by Mem Fox and Where the Wild things are. And Kings and Queens poems by the Farjeons for the slightly older

Thank you! I shall look those up with great interest.

Glorious isn’t it.

Excellent. I'd add the "I, Freddy" books (originally in German)

I love this Will, it's beautiful! So many great ones on there. Ant and Bee was my favourite as a child. Our family favourites, for older kids: Toms Midnight Garden, Moondial, The Phantom Tollbooth, Carrie's War, The Midnight Guardians and Wonder. And my daughter adores Mrs Frisbee and the rats of Nimh!

And will continue the list for older kids as mine grow…

Really kind Clare. Adding them all to my list now!

What a fabulous selection, we’ve read them all over the years and I’ll certainly be repeating them with grandchildren (not there yet 😉). Do check out a new book called Miss Prim Goes Wild by Katy Rose, it’s gorgeous 👌

Ooh thanks Leah - will add to list now.

There’s a lovely Wordsworthian thread to it, that nature changes us from the inside out.
